About Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Natural Park

Covering over 210,000 hectares in the northeastern part of Andalusia, Sierra de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Natural Park is the largest protected natural area in Spain and one of the most ecologically rich parks in Europe. The park includes dramatic limestone mountain ranges, deep river gorges, crystal-clear reservoirs, and extensive Mediterranean forests. It is home to one of Spain’s most important populations of endangered species such as the Spanish ibex, griffon vulture, golden eagle, and the elusive Iberian lynx. The park’s landscape is shaped by the Segura River and its tributaries, offering spectacular waterfalls and rugged ravines, including the famed Linarejos waterfalls. Visitors can explore a wide network of well-maintained hiking trails ranging from gentle walks to challenging mountain routes with panoramic vistas of the Mediterranean basin. The park also preserves important sites of cultural and natural heritage, including prehistoric cave art, traditional mountain villages, and ancient olive groves. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy fishing in crystal-clear rivers and reservoirs, mountain biking on forest trails, and rock climbing on limestone cliffs, while winter sports are possible in some of the higher elevations with snowfall. The area is well supported with visitor centers in towns such as Cazorla and La Iruela, offering educational exhibits and guidance. The park’s extensive biodiversity, impressive geology, and breathtaking sceneries make it a premier destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
